Adjudication Training Workshop for Landlords in London

The TDS have announced a half day workshop this coming February in London for landlords. The workshop will be interactive. It is crafted with the intent of giving property professionals and landlords in depth training on deposit protection and disputes.

Attendees will discuss a range of case studies and scenarios and will ideally take on the role of adjudicator in order to settle these disputes in a training situation. As they step back from the process and discover how to act like an adjudicator they will learn to think like one when a real situation arises in their own businesses.

Handling letting & tenancy disputes

Insight into best practice as a London landlord can help to prevent future problems.

As a landlord you are accountable for providing safe accommodation that is fit for purpose to your leaseholders. There is a responsibility to provide tenants with a lease and a copy of the guidelines upon which you operate. Likewise, a responsibility to maintain the property and repair it to keep it up to a good standard.

All of the responsibilities of the landlord are documented, as are the duties of a tenant. But sometimes problems arise with a tenancy. Communication breaks down. Either party might not keep up to their end of the deal. Deposit disputes can and do occur.

Education and Guidance for Landlords

Michael Morgan, Director of Dispute Resolution at TDS, said “These courses will help landlords and agents in London to provide a higher quality service to their tenants and ensure fair deposit outcomes. Many landlords and letting agents still make errors at the beginning of tenancies that have a knock-on effect when it comes to recouping rent arrears or damage deductions at the end of the lease agreement.

It is hoped that by sharing experiences with other professionals and gaining more insight into best practice that landlords will be able to help both themselves and their tenants going forward.
