Affordable housing celebrated at the recent awards event
The National Housing Awards celebrate excellence, innovation, creativity and progression in the affordable housing sector. Various prizes in different categories were recently dished out ant an event that was full of ‘outstanding entries’ according to head judge Steve Walker. The consultant and former chief executive of Amicus Horizon said ‘this year the standards were higher than ever.’
The Charity Advance Housing and Support was the overall winner on the day. It’s assistance of people with long term disabilities into permanent and sustainable home ownership was considered inspirational. This is a scheme which is a worthy winner.
Gems in East London’s E9 with winning new home & regeneration project
Some developments on our own doorstep also claimed awards on the day. Kings Crescent Estate in Hackney picked up the award for Best Regeneration Project. Higgins and Hackney Council wanted to address the issues of providing good quality homes in a new more open environment for the safety and welfare of it’s residents.
This project comprises the building of new homes and complete regeneration of existing ones along with new road plans and layouts. The new design connects the estate to the community and provides a much better way of life for those who live there.
Best Large Development at Bromley-by-Bow, E3
Bow River village is another winner. The E3 development is a first-time buyer scheme which released 219 properties in stage one. It runs along the riverside where a row of derelict warehouses ran and included 86 shared ownership apartments in this high quality first phase.
Stage two has now launched and is scheduled to be completed in 2019. The adjacent towpath has been restored as part of the project. This has now made the riverside a great place to walk or cycle. Locals now have a chance to enjoy the outdoors alongside their wonderfully designed contemporary new homes.
