Impressive conversion from workhouse to new homes
The former Victorian workhouse in Bow has now been completely transformed and converted into a new development for E3 with 252 new homes.
It was formerly a Victorian workhouse. In 1912 it was re-opened as Bow Institution and later St. Clements hospital. The once-derelict historic East London landmark is now listed and the whole site is a conservation area. This has led to a beautiful and carefully designed conversion overlooking Mile End road to the front and backing on to a large nature reserve.
Flats & conversions for sale & rent
This project includes a mix of new built flats including the beautiful Pavilion flats. Alongside these is the clocktower conversion which has been split into 39 units. They are a mix of one and two bed flats and are converted to an extremely high standard. They are light, bright and contemporary yet still have those original features included in their design. The development is open to private sales, shared ownership and rentals.
It is also part of the Community Land Trust and has allocated 23 of the properties as genuine affordable houses to keep residents of the area in their own area. The cost of these 23 properties will be linked to the area’s average median wage, meaning their prices will be around half the current market rate. Hopefully it will be the first of many such developments.
Bow as a location for investors, buyers or tenants
This development backs onto Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park which is now a nature reserve with a very interesting heritage. The listed high walls and beautiful walks are a great bonus to have on your doorstep.
Bow itself is a vibrant place to live and has had a lot of development in recent times. It is an ideal location to buy or rent with the Central line close by and Mile End tube station a mere five minutes walk away. If you work in Canary Wharf it is only 6 DLR stops from here. Definitely worth investigating.
