Bow & Stratford to benefit from huge cultural investment in Olympic Park

Find out more

Bow & Stratford have been thriving since the 2012 Olympics and the area is set to head on a new cultural journey. As work begins on East Bank cultural hub in the Olympic Park, our Bow estate agent team take a look at what is planned for the new development.

East Bank to bring thousands to the Stratford & Bow area

East Bank, a £1.1 billion project in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is set to bring over 10,000 students and university staff to the area. It has been dubbed a huge ‘culture boost’ and the opportunities it will bring are fantastic.

The 2012 Olympic games are the gift that simply keeps on giving to the Stratford and Bow areas. The project involves University College London, London College of Fashion and the BBC, among others. There are also plans for over 60,000 sq metres of residential development in the Olympic Park project and on-campus student accommodation.

There will be learning and employment opportunities galore in this thriving part of the city.

Inspirational development in East London

East Bank will have three sections. UCL East campus, Stratford Waterfront and Here East. These sections will house educational facilities alongside theatres, a research centre and a museum. The BBC will find it’s home in the Stratford Waterfront site.

Altogether, these three sections will bring a lot of footfall to the local area. Students and employees will come in their thousands daily. Alongside what the East Bank itself is offering will be many other opportunities. Performance venues, retail and food and drink spaces.

Constructing the future of the community

With Westfield Stratford City on board there has been a real boost to funding. They have been named as a founding partner and they will bring £10 million in contributions. This money will be pumped into the local community by way of education and apprenticeships.

Work has already commenced on East Bank. Construction is due to be completed by 2023, with the first buildings to open in 2022. With this ongoing building work there are not only opportunities for learning and employment upon completion. The actual construction is also providing employment opportunities.

There will be over 1500 people on site and we have been informed that 30% or more of the workforce will be employed from the local community. This is great news for employment in the area. Together with construction jobs there will be opportunities for a whole host of other services while construction is underway.
