Riverside properties in Vauxhall & Nine Elms are set to gain another stunning feature with front row seats to the Illuminated River project. Our SW8 estate agents take a look at what is going to happen and when.

Riverside homes in Vauxhall in pole position to enjoy the display

There are some fantastic properties for sale in the Vauxhall and Nine Elms regeneration zone. Soon, the spectacular Illuminated River project will bring enhanced views to the already-bulging lists of features of riverside properties in this area.

The Illuminated River project will be a free, all year round, art exhibition that will not only give great views but will throw some light on the natural beauty that is the river Thames. Stretching from Albert Bridge in west London to Tower Bridge in the east, this stunning £20 million project will light up 15 bridges along it’s journey through the capital. US artist Leo Villareal working alongside architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands won an international competition to become the the creators.

Vauxhall Bridge is one of the bridges which will benefit from the shimmering kinetic display. Vauxhall Bridge is London’s oldest bridge and during the daytime it’s beautiful  statues and oak stumps are enjoyed in their own right. Upon the project’s completion however, the bridge will now be appreciated more at night time also.

When will Vauxhall buyers see the finished product?

The project is due to begin in 2019 and will be completed in phases, with completion expected in 2022. Fundraising for the project is ongoing and it’s huge donations to date from philanthropic sources proves how much London is loved and respected for the great city it is.

Benefits for SW8 residents & visitors

This enlightening project will bring a real glow to a city that already shines.

This project is designed to benefit both visitors and locals and it will have the environment in mind throughout the design. The project leaders are doing research and working hard to ensure that it ‘leaves a positive environmental legacy for London.’

It will enhance the city at night and connect different sides of the river together as it joins north and south and flows through seven local authority areas . It will furthermore bring use to the riverbank alongside promoting innovation and creativity while boosting tourism at the same time. It will bring further opportunities to the areas it serves.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said “The Illuminated River will give London free art. The project also means that a wasted asset and a wasted resource will now be used.”
